Forge Arena is an auto-battler developed by Vulcan Forged, where you can pit your NFT and non-NFT Vulcanite characters against those of your opponent.

Key features
Forge Arena has the following key features:
• Choose the theme that fits your Gameplay. Forge Arena lets you control the visual
direction of how your battles unfold as you get to choose and save a theme to
your profile as soon as you’ve login to play. With choices ranging from Arcadia to
Notus and even the depths of Hades.
• Customize your Profile. You can change your avatar or display name by clicking on
your profile’s avatar on the home screen on the top right side and customize at
your own pace.
• View your NFTs in your Inventory. While on the main screen, you can also click and
view the NFTs you currently have in your inventory at any point in time. And, you
can also read up all the crucial bits of info stored in the tab beside them, including
all about their in-game stats.
• Select a game mode as you decide your strats. As you join the halls of Forge Arena
to battle, the game lets you decide which path you’d take: Play against a squad of
some really nifty bots or test your mettle against online players.
• Play against bots. Practice and give your best against a squad of progressively
stronger foes! Go up against intelligent bots powered by some crafty AI as you
discover their hidden powers in mimicking your inventory and strengths!
• Ranked matchmaking. Join action-filled battles in arenas against online players.
And learn to unleash your crew – rack up the best champions in store. A mode
where everyone starts out the same, but by playing and winning against other
players, one can climb their way up through the ranks.
• Earn experience points online. Playing online, you can earn valuable XP as you rank
up through battles in matchmaking. For every battle you win, you’re rewarded with
5 XP and 2 XP when you lose to your foe. There’s no XP rewarded for playing battles
in custom lobbies or against bots.
• Play with NFT Characters in any game mode. In Forge Arena, whether you decide
to play against bots or with a ranked player online, you can select and use NFTs
from your inventory at any point of the match. There are no caps on using them
while in battle.
• Play with all champions unlocked from the start. As an NFT or non-NFT user, you
will have access to all non-hero characters available in-game. Recruit them from
the in-game shop to your battle inventory and unleash them as you fight your foe.
Four freely available hero characters to choose from. Choose a hero persona from
our ever- expanding roster that fits your play style. With unique gameplay-affecting
changes, there's a hero character for everyone.
• Level Up your heroes and champions. While engaging in battle, you can level up
the champions in your crew, even as a non-NFT user, as you make room for more in
your battle inventory. *Note: You can level up heroes only if you got NFT heroes in
your inventory.
• Upgrade with NFT characters for increased stats. While levelling up, using NFT
heroes and champions can yield you characters with higher base strength and stats
such as attack points for your crew.
• Epic Gaming Moments. Play fast-paced duels and win against rivals and AI bots in
only the best graphical fidelity – where champions and NFT heroes duke it out in
fully glory and while being powered by Vulcan’s stellar gaming service
Terminology:
We have used certain terms in this game guide while describing the various mechanics,
gameplay moments and rules that unfold. You can refer to the following to know more
about them and understand each of them in their specific context:
a. User: A user, is the person who has logged in to the game and requested to play the
game.
b. Player: It’s an entity in-game which depicts a side in gameplay. If it is handled by a
user, then it is known as a useful player and if it is handled by a bot, then it is known
as a bot player.
c. Bot: A bot is an AI (Artificial Intelligence) based player. It makes decisions like put
chasing characters, starting combat, upgrading heroes, etc; according to code
combinations set for it.
d. Crew: A crew is the collection of champions a player has in the gameplay. Players
can purchase champions from the shop using coins.
e. Coins: Virtual currency used only inside Forge Arena’s gameplay. They are used to
purchase new champions from a shop which are added to the players crew.
f. Champions/Characters: These are the characters that a player can purchase from
the market tab and add to their crew. Each of the characters can be defined as per
their level and have base health and attack points among other stats such as attack
range, self-heal value, and coin cost.
g. Mana power is a magical power that refills at a particular time (as given in the table
below) and a special effect is displayed to highlight this. Due to mana power hero
character can either reduce the health of the opponent’s crew champions or heal
the health of self-crew champions or do both.
h. Hero Character: A hero character is a special champion who has an exclusive power
i.e., mana power in addition to all features of a normal champion. And in Forge
Arena, you can choose from 4 heroes to your cause, namely; Asterion, Chiron,
Numatox and Charon. They boast of much better stats than other characters in the
crew, and have high pools of health and attack points.
i. Mana Bar: A blue bar connected to all hero characters (shown on the left side of
gameplay screen) which when refilled completely, plays as mana power for that
champion. (Currently inactive on all heroes till future update)
j. Upgrade Character: Every character in-game, can be upgraded to the next level for
a stronger crew and ease of play. One can level up their character to the next
level– by owning 2 characters of the same level – which are merged to form a single
high-leveled character. This can be achieved by either purchasing the same chara
ter from the shop or working your way up to owning two characters of the same
level to unlock higher upgrades. *Note: NFT characters upgrade with an even higher
power and attack values, gaining a boost of 30% on top of their base stats which are
inherently higher than non-NFTs.
k. Attack Range: Owing to Forge Arena’s grid-snapping mechanics, all characters have
specific attack ranges and are bound by such. And depending on a character’s
attack range, they can attack in as many squares around them, from the place in the
field where they stand. For instance, Thunder is a non-hero character possessing an
attack range of ‘4.’ It can thus efficiently attack enemy characters upto 4 boxes in
any direction from where it got placed.
l. Round: A round is one of the series of battles you encounter while playing Forge
Arena whether against a bot or a ranked player. The player who loses in any round,
loses one of their total lives. There can be at least 4 rounds and a maximum of 7
rounds between any two players where the one losing the most rounds hence lives,
loses the game. See Appendix B for details.
m. Match: A match is a series of rounds played between two players until one of the
two loses all of their lives. It can take place between two live players where both
players are online or between a user and a bot in which case only one of them is
online. In addition, matches played against bots places a user against four bots. And
as such, there are overall 4 matches that can take place if the player wins against
each bot as: Match 1: User vs Bot1, Match 2: User vs Bot 2, Match 3: User vs Bot 3,
and Match 4: User vs Bot4.

4.1 Categories

Over 30 (27 Champions + 4 Hero characters) characters have been added to the latest
version of Forge Arena, to ensure a thrilling gaming experience. More hero characters
and champions will be added as we proceed to upgrade the current version. In
addition, we have added character references in Appendix A at the end of the
document.

Gameplay
5.1. Rules of Battle
This is a strategy-based game with the following game flow:
• Player Lives: In Forge Arena, players need to win rounds to protect their lives. If they
lose a round, then 1 of their lives is deducted which happens when all of his champ
ons die on the battlefield. They lose the game if they lose enough rounds and thus
no more lives remain.
a. Bot Setup:
• To keep the game interesting, each game is made more difficult than the previous
one: The way this is enabled is that Bot 2 is more powerful than bot 1, bot 3 is more
powerful than bot 2 and bot 4 is the most powerful.
• If all lives of a bot are lost and the user still lives on then the user progresses to win
the match with the next bot and so on until he defeats the last bot i.e. bot 4.
• Owing to Forge Arena’s Intelligent Bot feature, the bot player’s crew and Hero
characters are automatically purchased by the AI. Upgrading of characters is also
automated with no presets whatsoever. In case the user has NFTs in their inventory,
then the bot’s inventory that gets created, is made using the levels of NFT
characters in the user’s profile.
b. Building a crew:
• Initially, in round 1, each side is given a limit of 3 characters.
• There is a preparation timer for 30 seconds. You need to select your characters
within those 30 seconds. You can skip the timer and start the battle immediately
by pressing the forward button if you have spare time - after choosing your crew.
When you’re playing against bots, you can even pause the timer and play it again as
desired. Once the battle starts it can’t be paused.
• For the bot player, 3 characters are automatically selected as per the code powered
by the AI. The player gets to select their champions manually from the shop
depending upon the coins he has. Here is the player’s opportunity to strategize and
choose his winning champions.
• In the shop, the player will find a ‘shuffle’ button, which allows you to restock the
champions should you not find them fitting your requirement, post shuffling you
can buy them with an apt strategy according to the coins and character limit the
player has. *Note: Shuffling requires you to spend 2 coins and you may repeat it as
long as you have the coins for it. One character space is added to both user and bot
crew at the end of each round so that they can add more champions to their crew.
c. Battle Scenario:
• Once the countdown ends, both crews engage in battle, and as per their attack
impacts, health, and damage calculations; the result is finalized.
• A strategic move would be to place stronger champions near the vulnerable areas,
as the champion will attack its nearest placed opponent. However, one can also take
into account the attack range of their characters in doing so.
• Once a battle has finished and all champions on either side have exhausted their
lives, 1 life is deducted from the total lives the losing player currently has.
• If one’s playing against bots and the bot player loses all of his life against the user
player, then the next bot comes to battle the victor player.
d. Round win/loss:
• If all champions of a player are dead, then that side is declared as lost and the other
side as the winner of this particular round.
• If a user wins the round, then he is shown a win popup. Else he is shown a defeat
popup.
• Both winner and loser get some coins for the next round, but the winner gets more
coins as compared to their opponent and hence he can purchase better characters
than the losing player.
e. Match win/loss:
• WIN: If a player wins all the rounds and also the match and their opponent loses all
of their CHAMPIONS, then that user is declared the winner of that match and gets
to see a victory screen with the XP reward displayed. If they were playing against
bots, then the player is taken to the next match with bot 2 and so on.
• LOSS: If all CHAMPIONS of a player are exhausted and they lose enough rounds to
lose all their lives in the process, then the player loses the match and the opponent
wins. A similar summary screen is displayed indicating their defeat and the XP
points they receive while losing. 5 XP is rewarded to the player who won the game
and 2 XP is rewarded to the losing player. *Note: No XP is rewarded for matches
played against bots or in custom lobbies.
• Plus, In case they were playing against bots, then they don’t advance to the next
match with the next bot.
f. XP Gain Criteria:
• While playing a match in Forge Arena, certain prerequisites affect a player’s ability
to gain experience points to their profile. And given that earning XP is possible only
in online Player Vs. Player matches, it doesn’t necessarily mean that solely joining or
participating in one is enough.
• Building on PvP battles, the match must have taken place in a random game made
through the in-game matchmaking process and not by any lobby or custom room
created.
• Also, in addition to being present in a ranked match, the player should have drawn
at least a single champion character to the arena on board in the first round and a
minimum of 2 characters henceforth – to the board, in every round as the game
progresses.
• These criteria govern the game engine in how experience points finally get
disbursed: Meeting which, players are able to earn XP to their Forge Arena profile
as they play, whether they win or lose in their next game.
g. Game Win/Loss
• WIN: For a user to win the game, the user’s opponent has to lose all of their Lives,
and then the player is declared the victor.
• LOSS: If all Lives of a player are exhausted before their opponent’s, then the player
loses the game.
• AGAINST BOTS: In case one is playing against bots, then all bots with their
colletive lives need to be defeated for a victory but simply losing all lives will result
in a loss.
5.2. The NFT and Non-NFT Battle Experience:
Forge Arena is a decentralized gaming title which features NFT characters among other
blockchain-based features that enables the game. The battle experience for players
who own and use NFTs in Forge Arena both overlap and differ when it comes to the
same for non-NFT users. Following are some key aspects of the battle experience
where you can expect to face them:
a. Inventory:
Accessed from the main screen, is the inventory tab where you can select and browse
through all the NFTs you own to your profile. You can switch between Hero characters
and Champions to toggle through types of characters and also read up any important
bits of info about them from this tab.

Once a battle begins, you can choose from all the champions available to you as an
NFT user – from both the non-NFT and NFT tabs. To view and select the NFT
champions from your profile inventory, you can click the ‘NFT’ button as shown above
and select any NFT character available from your inventory. *Note: You can choose NFT
champions as per the number of NFTs held by you, in your profile.
d. Hero Selection:
There are upto 4 Hero characters from which you can select, once the Hero selection
screen unlocks after round 1. And you can choose from any of them while playing a
battle. However, the hero characters can be chosen only once by non-NFT users for the
entirety of the game. In contrast if you own any as an NFT, then you can select hero
characters, multiple times after the initial process seen after the 1st round. *Note: You
can choose NFT heroes as per the number of NFTs held by you, in your profile.
e. Levelling up a Character:
When levelling up a character, choosing an NFT character instead of a non-NFT version
of the same yields better results. As the multipliers and base values for NFT characters
are different and leads to the creation of higher-levelled characters that have more
power than non-NFT characters of the same levels. This is because NFT characters,
whether champions or heroes, are 30% stronger in attack and power points than their
base variants. Moreover, they also gain a 30% boost when they are levelled up.
f. Higher base strength:
Moreover, NFT versions of any Hero or non-hero character in Forge Arena, as you’ll
find, is more powerful than their base, non-NFT variants. They are 30% stronger and
have a higher base level of power to begin with. This increases exponentially when they
are further levelled up. For instance, an NFT version of the character ‘Wolfshadow’ will
have 716 base power instead of a non-NFT version of the same character having 551
as its base.

Here’s a rundown of all the important tabs and buttons on the home menu that affect
your gameplay experience in Forge Arena:

Next, sneak a peek at all that you’ll conquer when you set out for a battle in the world
of Forge Arena – detailing most of the steps you’ll face on your way to earning XP:
5.3.1 Player vs. Player:
1. Battles in Forge Arena are fought and won on the basis of each player’s champions
being able to best the other’s over multiple rounds.
2. Each PvP fight plays out in the arena, in an “Auto battler” style of gameplay with
each player having access to Hero and supporting characters as champions in their
battle.
3. All characters in the game are available to both NFT and F2P users. And whether a
player owns NFT characters or not, they can get matched and play together –
regardless of either.
4. In any battle, a player can choose from among 4 Hero characters and unlimited
suporting characters as their champions to best their opponent’s team. However, if
they own NFT characters in their profile’s inventory, then they can select them as
champions from the in-game tab and during the hero selection process too, after
the first round. And they can select these NFT characters to their battle inventory –
as many times as they own a copy of that NFT character in their main inventory.
5. Both hero characters and the rest have health bars attached to their models
on-screen, but only the hero characters have a mana bar. They use it to inflict
special attacks that reduce the health points of all enemy characters or heal other
champions in their crew, whenever it’s refilled. Take the following pictures for
example:
1. Indicates your character’s name as well as their current health bar.
2. Health bars attached to on-screen character models
3. Indicates the level of the character where 1 star = Level 1 character, and so on.
6. To start an online battle, you must click on ‘Play’ from the main menu screen and
select ‘vs. Player’ on the next. Hit ‘Ready’ and then select and launch a battle online
by choosing ‘Let’s Play’ which will match you against another player online.
7. The battle plays out in a series of rounds, ranging anywhere from 4 to 7 and ends
when any player has run out of lives.
8. Knowing that, you begin round 1 with a character selection screen where you can
choose from the options present – non-hero characters to start the first round in
battle with.
9. At the start of the first round, you get 6 coins and a tab of characters at the top to
choose from – with the cost of each character written beside them.
10. You can buy a character to your on-screen inventory (denoted by the blue spheres
at the bottom of the rows to your side). At any point in the game, you can’t have
more than 9 characters residing in your inventory.
11. You have a 30-second timer during this process, and you must buy and then click
and drag each of the characters you’ve bought to launch them onto the battlefield
by placing them on any of the squares on your side.
12. Once you’re ready, you can skip the rest of the timer by clicking on the “ “ symbol
beside the timer and begin the first round.
13. When the battle begins, the first thing you have to do is to select champions for
your crew to descend for battle. For this, you can select non-NFT champions from
the tab placed above or switch to the ‘NFT’ tab by clicking on the button, and then
make your selection of champions to that effect.
14. Hero characters unlock for the selection process only after the first round has
been completed. It automatically whisks you away to a separate screen where you
can choose from among the 4 heroes: Asterion, Chiron, Numatox and Charon.
15. The hero selection and options are the same for both NFT and non-NFT players as
anyone can choose any of the 4 heroes. However, the hero selection for non-NFT
players is limited to only 1 for the duration of the game.
16. Players owning NFTs of the hero characters can choose a different hero in each
round – once for each hero character.
17. Plus, NFT users can view and select NFT versions of any non-hero character at any
point, by clicking on the ‘NFT’ button during the selection process from the top –
which displays your NFT supporting characters to choose from.
18. As the game progresses, you’ll find that you can level up each base champion and
hero character to improve their strength – NFT and non-NFT. This is automatically
done for you when you have two same level version of same character on the
board.
19. These characters combine to form a single supporting character of a higher level.
For instance, two level 1 characters combine to form a single level 2 character, and
so on. This is extremely useful to your gameplay experience as levelling up
charaters free up additional space on your game board and also provides you with
a stronger character to continue with. *Note: The minimum level at which any
character can exist and is upgraded from, is level 1 and the max level to which you
can upgrade a character, is level 3.
20. To ensure that characters in your crew level up, you can purchase those characters
specifically as each round passes over – sometimes even using the ‘Shuffle’ feature
costing 2 coins each time, to try and hunt for a specific character if you have the
coins for it.
21. Playing further, you receive more coins with each coming round to purchase and
add more supporting characters to the battlefield with each round you win
rewarding you with more coins than had you lost the round. This way, you get to
purchase better non-hero characters and improve your chances at beating your rival.
22. The battles in each round are automated, apart from the selection and placement
of your champions in the arena. The maximum number of champions that can be
placed is capped at 15. And the game ends when any of the two players have lost
all their lives with the other emerging as a victor
23. The winning player receives 5 experience points to their name for their victory
whereas the losing player receives 2.
24. The same format of battle gets repeated in friendly scrims started from custom
lobbies – when you’re playing with a friend or a user online. The only difference
between the two being that players don’t receive any XP for playing games
through custom lobbies.
5.3.2 Player vs. Bots:
While playing against bots is good for you to get some practice in, or check out all the
facets of the gameplay in Forge Arena, it can also be prudent to understand how bot
matches work:
1. In any bot game you begin, there will always be 1 user or player (that’s you) and 4
bot players.
2. You begin a match with a bot by navigating to the mode-selection screen and
choosing ‘vs. Bot.’ The match starts when you click ‘Fight’ on the next screen to
begin.
3. Unlike online battles, a match against a bot can span over many rounds since you
have to face-off against 4 bots instead of just 1 opposing player.
4. As the main player, you have 4 lives to your name as do the bots. And you have to
survive this onslaught and defeat each bot by winning the rounds and reducing
their lives till they don’t have any left.
5. The user thus needs to defeat all bot players to win the game, while holding on
with what they’ve got left of the 4 lives they begin with.
6. The bot matches are made fair and balanced by the implementation of
a progressive difficulty scale that’s applied to the bots from the first to the last.
7. However, to keep the bot match competitive for users playing the game with NFT
characters, the bots also mimic the inventory of any user they face. They do this by
creating an inventory in real time which matches the levels of each NFT character
that you own, though they may be different.
8. In a single round, the user cannot purchase the same character twice from the
shop. When the user purchases a character for a round it will disappear from the
shop and will appear in the player’s inventory.
9. A character can be upgraded to a maximum of 3 levels. When the player buys a
character with level 1 twice it shall evolve into a single level 2 character. When he
has two characters of level 2 then those will merge to become a single level
3 character.
10. With an increase in the level of character its size, health, and attack impact also
increase.
11. Both the bot and the player can utilize the option to shuffle the shop when
choosing characters. 2 coins are deducted for each shuffle from both user coins
and bot coins.
12. Hero character is introduced only at the start of the 2nd match i.e. when a player
wins a match from bot 1 in the very first match and goes to bot 2, then the hero
character level increases to level 2. When the player wins from bot 2 and goes to
match with bot 3, then the character level increases to level 3. Level 3 is the highest
level for the hero character as well.
13. The player is given a crew preparation timer of 30 seconds, in which he can decide
which players are to be purchased and also the placement of characters over
available grid positions. The player can pause this preparation timer in between
the countdown but they cannot pause the game once the battle begins. The
player can skip the preparation timer by clicking on the skip/forward button next
to the timer text.
14. Users can select hero characters in Round 2 once they complete the first round
with bot 1. Random hero characters are assigned to Bot players.
15. A hero character once chosen by the player either user or bot can’t be altered later
on after selecting one. Although however, if you own NFT hero characters, then
you can choose other hero characters in later stages of the game.
16. Once a character is purchased from the shop there is no way to replace or return
it. It shall become a part of your inventory for the gameplay.
17. All Characters have health and attack points, which come into play when they
attack and sustain incoming damage while in battle.
18. Each hero character has mana power (special power) which is available for use
after refill time as per the character. Mana power allows the hero character to
attack the opponent’s champions, heals its crew, or perform both attack & healing
simultaneously. Mana power does not affect the health of the owner hero
charater; it impacts only non-hero characters.
19. If no champion is selected by the user, then they lose the round and the next
round starts. And by round 2, if the user hasn’t selected any hero character before
the preparation timer’s countdown ends, then they get the chance to pick a hero
character again, when that round ends and before the 3rd round.
20. The user receives no XP (Experience points) at the end of the game. Unlike how
with one’s matches against online players, they are rewarded with no XP when
they win a match against bots.
21. The maximum number of champions that can be placed in the battle arena in the
complete gameplay is 15
5.4 GAMEPLAY WALKTHROUGH: Case Study with Bot 1
1. The player is paired with 4 bots. There are some AI players (bots) in the game
and randomly 4 of those bots are selected from the complete list.
2. When the player clicks on the Fight button, they are is then redirected to the
gameplay arena wherein the player’s champions fight the other bot’s
champions 1 by 1. We have set different bots with different difficulty levels:
a) Bot 1: Easiest
b) Bot 2: Easy
c) Bot 3: Medium
d) Bot 4: Hard
5.5 Player VS Bot 1: How does it works?

o AI adds 3 champions to the Bot1’s crew 1, 3 is the maximum number of
champions allowed for that round.
o Similarly, the player is allowed to choose his champions to form his crew from
the shop, (Each character costs some coins, the player is to strategize here to
form the best permutation).
o So, if the player wants to choose expensive characters, then he might end up
buying 1 or 2 characters only.
The Last man standing wins.

o In the second round, the player is asked to choose a hero character. No coins
are deducted to select the hero character. If he/she doesn’t select a h e r o
character in the preparation timer then the player receives the option to choose
a hero character again, after the second-round closes.
o Bot 1 will also present its hero character, powered by AI.

5.8 Other rounds:
Rounds will progress until all lives of either Player 1 or Bot 1 are exhausted. If player 1
loses all of its lives then it’s “game over”. If bot 1 loses all of its lives then player 1 is
paired with the next bot, i.e. bot 2, and again player 1 and bot 2 play until either all lives
of player 1 are lost, or all lives of bot 2 are lost and so on till the last bot has been
defeated by the player or either player loses all his lives while fighting the bots.
Scenario: Given that:
• player 1 wins against bot 1
• has 2 lives left,
• player 1 played 6 rounds with bot 1
• the total number of characters that player 1 has in his crew will be 8. (First
round =3 champions each, 2nd round = 4 champions each and so till 6th
round, it successively becomes 8 champions)
For this scenario following ways battles are made:

o Now, again the player fights bot 2 until all of his or all of bot 2 lives are
depleted. Round win and loss income stay the same.
o With each round 1 character place is added to the team i.e. if in round 7 => 8
characters could be there then in the next round 9 characters will be allowed,
and so on.
o Note: for bot 2, bot 3, and bot 4, hero characters are automatically added to
their crews before the first round as we retain the whole progress of player 1
when he plays with the next bot. Also, bot 2, bot 3, and bot 4 have some players
of level 2 and level 3 too in the very first round to increase the difficulty level
with every round.
No experience points are rewarded for winning a match against bots. You receive XP
only for playing ranked matches where you get 5 XP for winning and 2 XP for losing.
