Phalanx

Phalanx or Vulcan's Phalanx is a series of 10,000 collectible NFT avatars that is currently being released over five waves by Vulcan Forged. Each avatar is unique in image, name and lore or character details that comes with it.

Details and launch

Vulcan's Phalanx was first announced in late 2021 as a series of 10,000 collectible avatars. In March 2022 it was announced that Phalanx avatars would be released in five waves of 2,000 avatars, each wave split into the four quadrants familiar to players and followers of Vulcan Forged's ecosystem from the VulcanVerse map. The first characters from Wave 1 were announced as Centaurs of Arcadia, released in April 2022.

Vulcan's Phalanx Wave 1

The full Wave 1 release list can be seen below; for each avatar type there are 500 unique characters available.

• Boreas Wave 1 - Minotaurs (June 2022)
• Notus Wave 1 - Sphinxes (July - August 2022)
• Hades Wave 1 - Lamias (October - November 2022)

Vulcan's Phalanx Wave 2

Wave 2 is set to be released throughout the first months of 2023. The team wants to ensure that as many of the Wave 1 buffs and benefits are live or working towards going live before Wave 2 arrives.

Waves 3 to 5

No release dates have been set for Waves 3 to 5 as of yet, though internally a character list has been prepared for each wave.

Lore / background information

Award winning fantasy author and staff member Jamie Thomson, also known as DarkLord, provides names and lore for each character type. This is then randomized to go alongside the random character image. Another staff member, Neswulf, will make the odd addition to the lore, including hosting a competition where players from the quadrant that the current avatar character is based share their plot image and name; Jamie will then choose his three favorites to win, the winner's plot names will be added to the lore documentation and therefore become one of the 'home' locations of the character in question. Jamie also ensures there are several unique, comedic elements to the names and lore, these avatars in particular have proved popular whether or not they have the best statistics.

Statistics

As well as having a unique look, name and lore, each avatar has a set of statistics. There are three statistic points:

• Attack
• Defense
• Speed

Attack is defined by the weapon belonging to the character. Defense is defined by the armor worn by the avatar. Finally, body type (and in the case of Sphinxes, wings) defines speed.

Buffs and benefits

As well as being unique collectibles, each character is announced with a series of buffs or benefits. So far these have included:

• Phalanx characters are the only NFTs you can set as your My Forge avatar.
• My Forge accounts with avatars have a slightly better % chance with lootboxes.
• An achievement for collecting 4x matching avatars (for example 4x Minotaurs).
• All Vulcan's Phalanx weapons will be available for use in Vulcan Assassins.
• % $LAVA generation multiplier per avatar held (full details TBA but 1% to 3% based on stats)
• An achievement for having an avatar with either the rarest armor or weapon.
• 5% Vulcanite attack stat boost in VulcanVerse for holding a Phalanx avatar with the rarest weapon.
• 5% Vulcanite defence stat boost in VulcanVerse for holding a Phalanx avatar with the rarest armor.
• An achievement for holding matching avatar and Vulcanite types, such as Asterion, Velosina and a centaur avatar.
• As well as the above, Phalanx avatars are available for integration and use in future games.

Vulcan's Phalanx Challenges

Phalanx Challenges will be a set of game based challenges that can be accessed through My Forge, but only by players owning a Vulcan's Phalanx avatar. By accepting and completing challenges, players can earn XP and other items. 'Vulcan's Phalanx Challenges' is currently at the planning stage (October / November 2022).

Purchasing a Vulcan's Phalanx avatar

The process for purchasing a Vulcan's Phalanx avatar is quite simple.

1. First, the user must ensure they have a My Forge account set up and a Venly wallet linked.
2. On the date and time of the sale, the user must visit https://phalanx.vulcanforged.com and click Get a Sphinx / Lamia / Dryad or whatever the current avatar type is.
3. The user should sign in with their My Forge login and password.
4. Click ‘Receive your companion from the Gods’. Venly will pop up- the user must sign in to Venly and pay the 25 $PYR cost.
5. An avatar is displayed on screen. The user has 1 minute to either accept this avatar, or decline and make one further payment of 5 $PYR (a further Venly pop up) for a different avatar. Note- there is no further choice after this, the avatar after either accepting the first or declining and paying for a second choice will be the user's.
6. If the user allows the timer to count down to 15 seconds remaining, they will be able to view the avatar stats- here the user must decide quickly, if the counter reaches zero, the user will receive the avatar on screen.
7. The congratulations screen gives the user the name and lore for their Vulcan’s Phalanx avatar alongside the image. Here, the user can press exit to go back to the first screen, where they can purchase a further avatar should they want to.
8. Minting will happen after all Vulcan’s Phalanx avatars have been purchased.
